In February-March 2022, Ontex conducted a pilot project of the Orizon Smart Incontinence Care Service at the Palmscher Garten nursing home in the town of Deizisau, Germany, where 10 residents in the nursing home tried out the service and validated the Smart Incontinence Service in terms of leakage prevention, convenience, and the impact on caregivers and users.  After actual use, a 100% reduction in leaks was found and the resulting extra work, including changing wetted bedding, was alleviated. Each wetted bed took 2 nurses approximately 10 min to make up and incontinence supplies only needed to be changed when necessary. The nursing staff spent a total of 3.2h less time on incontinence care each day, saving 7 diapers per day. In nursing homes, checking the status of diapers at night is a routine task and many users are awakened or disturbed in their sleep. With the smart incontinence products, there is no need to check diaper status as often, and trial participants have improved sleep quality, getting at least eight hours of sleep each night. In addition to Germany, Ontex has pilot projects in Belgium and France and will soon launch pilots in Italy and the U.K. Ontex plans to roll out the Smart Incontinence Management service in Europe by the end of 2022 and early 2023. Procter & Gamble (P&G) reported fiscal year 2022 net sales of $80.2 billion, an increase of 5% versus the prior year. Excluding the impacts of foreign exchange, acquisitions and divestitures, organic sales increased 7%. The growth was broad-based driven by a 2% increase in organic volume, a 4% increase due to higher pricing and a 1% increase from positive mix. The company reported fiscal year 2022 fourth quarter net sales of $19.5 billion, an increase of 3% versus the prior year. Excluding the impacts of foreign exchange, acquisitions and divestitures, organic sales increased 7%. The growth was driven by an 8% increase in pricing, partially offset by a 1% decrease in volume primarily due to pandemic-related lockdowns in Greater China and reduced operations in Russia. Mix was neutral to net sales growth for the quarter. In the fourth fiscal quarter, Baby, Feminine and Family Care segment organic sales increased 7% versus year ago. Baby Care organic sales increased mid-single digits due to increased pricing, partially offset by lower volumes due to reduced operations in Russia and competitive activity in developed markets. Ontex’s revenue of Core Markets was €396 million ($403 million), up 10% like for like, driven by 5.1% volume/mix growth and 5.3% overall higher prices. With a 2.9% increase compared to the previous quarter, this marks five consecutive quarters of sequential growth. Revenue was up double digit in Europe, while in North America the evolution was more subdued due to a higher comparable in 2021. Forex fluctuations added 3.6%, with the significant year-on-year appreciation of the U.S. dollar and Russian ruble, increasing revenue 14% overall. Prices were up 5.3% on average, versus 1.7% in the first quarter. By June prices were up further and as more pricing has already been secured, these are expected to continue to increase in the coming months. Baby pants growth accelerated compared to the first quarter, to strong double-digit year on year, benefitting from a new product range and share gains from its customers. GP Cellulose is investing about $80 million to add fluff capacity at its GP Cellulose Alabama River mill near Monroeville, AL. The project is being implemented in phases and when complete in late 2023, will increase the mill's ability to produce fluff pulp. The Alabama River mill operates two lines, one currently producing only paper pulp bales. This investment upgrades production by adding the ability for this line to also produce fluff pulp rolls. The mill's second line was upgraded to produce both paper pulp bales and fluff pulp rolls in 2011. Major aspects of the project are complete, including investments in the headbox and forming table. The final phase is underway now and includes infrastructure as well as winding and wrapping components. Plans call for the newly upgraded line to have the ability to produce fluff pulp in late 2023. Fluff pulp is used in a variety of hygienic disposable products, including baby diapers, feminine hygiene, adult incontinence and airlaid nonwovens.
